The Rolex Vintage Oyster Date 1500 Silver Index

June 22, 2023

It's finally MINE!

Dad's watch, is finally mine. Growing up, I saw this watch on my dad's wrist. It was a simple Stainless Steel watch with a Silver Index dial. It looked great on his wrist, and it seemed like he wore everyday.

It wasn't originally his, as his sister initially purchased it for her husband in Hong Kong 1966, for a hefty $100 USD, or $938 in today's money. He apparently hated the weight of it as it bothered his wok hand when cooking at the Chinese Takeout restaurant they worked at. It was offered to Dad. Well, Dad's no dummy, and he accepted it.

SIZE

The Rolex Oyster Date 1500 is a classic and understated timepiece that was produced from 1962 to the late 1970s. It's a 34mm watch, which is a bit on the small side by today's standards, but it's still a great size for those who prefer a more compact watch. My 6.5 inch wrist can rock this watch no problem, and it looks great!

This particular watch has a 1.45 million serial dating it to a 1966 year production watch.

The 1500 is made of stainless steel, and it has a water resistance of 100 meters. It's powered by the Rolex Caliber 1570 movement, which you can also find in the Rolex Submariner 1680.

The dial of the 1500 is available in a variety of colors, including black, blue, silver, and champagne. It has a date window at the 3 o'clock position, and the hands and hour markers stand out against the Silver dial.

The riveted bracelet, is in excellent condition, with little stretch. You can see in the pictures, that it barely sags when laid on its side! The buckle still snaps on with a crisp snap.

One of the things that makes the 1500 so appealing is its simplicity. It's a no-nonsense watch that doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles. But that's part of its charm. It's a classic Rolex that's built to last. The 1500 is the perfect watch for people who want a Rolex but don't want to spend a fortune. It's the little watch that could. It may be small, but it's mighty.

The 1500 is the perfect watch for people who want to look like they know what they're doing without actually having to know anything about watches.

(Dad didn't know much about watches, but he knew Rolex was a nice brand, even back in 1966!)

So, if you're looking for a classic and understated Rolex that won't break the bank, the Oyster Date 1500 is a great option. This watch that has lasted for 57 years and it can still be worn!

But be warned: once you get a 1500, you might not want to take it off. It's just that good.
